Search Console CWV Report vs PageSpeed Insights

In an SEO office hour video, John Mueller from Google shows why there are often discrepancies between the PageSpeed Insights score and the Search Console Core Web Vitals score.

He demonstrates how and why it is illogical for two-page speed measures to agree.

He said:

"The first step, in my opinion, should be to state the obvious: there is no exact speed measurement that can be used to determine how well a website is serving users.

By default, PageSpeed Insights just shows one value, which I believe is a score between 0 and 100. This score is based on a variety of presumptions, one of which is that different variables have different effects on users' response times.

Based on that, we calculate a score.

Speed, responsiveness, and interaction are the three criteria on which the Core Web Vitals data in Search Console is based.

Of course, the fact that there are three as opposed to one causes a huge difference in these numbers."
